The very earliest J Beam UHF aerials had a length of 1 inch tube with cast alloy clips at each end rather than a ‘cradle’ or ‘support arm’. This was probably abandoned because of worries about the proximity of the mast clamp to the elements. The very earliest UHF aerials were designed for a specific channel rather than a channel group, and I think that may be the case here.
